An Enchanting Night: Exploring the Dallas Zoo Lights

Last night, our family kicked off the holiday season with a bang at the Dallas Zoo Lights Presented by Reliant—and let me tell you, it’s bigger, brighter, and better than ever! From jaw-dropping immersive experiences to magical animal-themed displays, this year’s event was packed with moments that left us in awe. The boys were captivated, Thomas and I were thoroughly entertained, and the whole evening felt like stepping into a holiday dream.

What’s New and Exciting This Year?

The Dallas Zoo Lights team really outdid themselves for the 2024 season. Here are some of the standout features that had us oohing and aahing all night long:

Dino Lumina: A Jurassic Adventure

Dinosaurs and holidays? Yes, please! This first-of-its-kind immersive projection experience had us walking among prehistoric giants as they roamed, hunted, and (very realistically) roared. Located in DinoLand and included FREE with admission, the glowing dinos were a big hit with the boys. It’s the last year these dinos will be around, so you don’t want to miss them before they’re gone for good!

Visions of the Wild

New this year at Picnic Ridge, this 360-degree immersive adventure lets kids (and adventurous adults!) dress up in explorer gear and journey through glowing biomes from around the world. The boys couldn’t get enough of pretending to be little adventurers trekking through rainforests and deserts. It was an experience that made learning about nature wildly fun!

Rainforest Radiance Show

At the Amphitheater, we sat down for this stunning timed light show set to holiday tunes. The synchronized lights danced to the music, and it felt like the rainforest was alive with holiday cheer.

Other Can’t-Miss Highlights

60 Larger-than-Life Animal Lanterns: From glowing giraffes to towering elephants, the illuminated animal lanterns are spread across the zoo and make for incredible photo ops.

Santa’s Holiday Storyland: Free photos with Santa every night? Yes, we took full advantage of this! The boys had their lists ready, and Santa did not disappoint with his jolly charm.

Neon Ocean Adventure: The Lacerte Children’s Zoo transformed into a glow-in-the-dark underwater world, complete with neon sea creatures. The boys loved exploring this magical space, and honestly, so did we.

Festive Food & Drinks: From specialty s’mores to savory soups and spiked hot cocoa for adults, the food and drink options were just as much a part of the experience as the lights. (Tip: Don’t skip the spiked cocoa—it’s perfect for chilly nights!)

Layer Up: Even Texas nights can get chilly, and you’ll want to stay warm while wandering the zoo.

Bring Your Camera: Between the glowing lanterns, light tunnels, and photo ops with Santa, your camera roll will thank you.

Snack Strategically: Try the seasonal soups for something cozy, and definitely grab a cup of the spiked hot cocoa if you’re 21+!

We left the Dallas Zoo Lights buzzing with holiday excitement, bellies full of festive treats, and hearts full of joy. The boys have already asked when we can go back, and honestly, we’re tempted to make it happen.
