It is hard to believe that the summer break is behind us and that the first day of the next grade has arrived. If only we could figure out a way of slowing down time - even just a little! We had an amazing trip to Ireland, visiting family and adding a few new places to the list for the boys. Finland, Denmark, Belgium were a blast but nothing tops our time with family on the Emerald Isle. We will just forget about the never ending delay leaving Dublin Airport and that departure screen telling us "next info" in 30 mintues for almost 5 hours before being cancelled. But we made it back to Dallas in time to get organized and pick up those back to school essentials to start off the new school year on the right note.
First things first: some new outfits. It's all about comfort and for these boys, back to school comfort means sports wear. This year we partnered with our friends at Macy's and picked up some of our favorite brands. The list of needs and wants is never ending and grows year on year. One thing we have learned is to invest a little more in items that they will use every day that can withstand all the wear tear that comes with energetic kids.
Here in Texas it is still super hot and peak summer with temps of around 100F degrees (38c). So next on the list were some water bottles from Yeti. With countless colors to choose from and name engraving, these bottles can withstand those hot days and keep water ice cold to quench any thirst. The boys opted for Northwoods Green this year.
Thankfully, we were able to preorder school supplies such as all the pens, paper and folders they will need throughout the year and have them waiting for them at their desk. Given a lot of learning in class nowadays involves using a device, a reliable headset is a must and it's always good to check the volume settings/volume protection to prevent any harm to those little ears.
For me, there is nothing more frustrating than a lunch box coming home from school that is full of all those juices and oils. No matter how diligent we all are at choosing what could be described as a military grade leak proof box, somehow we are left with remnants of pesto sauce to greet us. But that's the fun of elementary school kids and we wouldnt have it any other way. The only other issue is trying to vary lunch options that don't involve hours in the kitchen or cutting food into gallery worthy mosaic pieces but that's a problem for another day.
