When a new restaurant opens in Dallas, we can't resist checking it out. Our latest culinary adventure led us to Doughbird, a fresh spot combining comfort food classics with a gourmet twist. Located at Lovers and Inwood, Doughbird is owned by Fox Restaurant Concepts, the same group behind popular spots like The Henry and Culinary Dropout, so we knew we were in for a treat. With a menu ranging from pizza to chicken and beyond, we were excited to indulge in what Doughbird had to offer.
The Atmosphere
Walking into Doughbird, we were greeted with a warm, casual vibe, perfect for families and gatherings. The decor strikes the right balance between chic and laid-back, and our twin boys were immediately drawn to the open pizza kitchen where they could watch the chefs in action. The staff was incredibly welcoming, and it's clear that Doughbird is a family-friendly restaurant, with plenty of space and options for kids to enjoy.
Cocktails to Kick Things Off
What’s a dinner out without cocktails? Doughbird’s drink menu is extensive, and we were excited to explore it before diving into the food. Thomas had their Raven & Geary Margarita, a delightful mix of Tradicional Reposado tequila, yuzu honey house sour, and tuxedo salt. It was a perfect blend of sweet, tart, and refreshing with a sophisticated edge. Scott opted for The Local, a vibrant cocktail made with strawberry-infused vodka, French grapefruit liqueur, lemon, and topped with sparkling wine.
The Starters
We kicked off our meal with their chicken wings and truffle fries. Let me just say, the wings were crispy perfection. Each bite was packed with flavor, and the boys couldn’t get enough of them. The truffle fries were just the right level of indulgent, crispy on the outside, with that subtle truffle essence that makes everything taste a little more luxurious. Needless to say, the plates were clean in minutes.
For the Kids: Pizza Paradise
Our boys opted for pizza, choosing the classic Margherita and The Aviator. The Margherita was simple yet packed with fresh flavors—a light, tangy tomato sauce, creamy mozzarella, and fragrant basil on a perfectly chewy crust. Meanwhile, The Aviator was a hearty mix of pepperoni, Italian sausage, Nueske's bacon, crushed tomato sauce, and mozzarella, offering bold flavors with each bite. Both pizzas were hits, and the boys were more than happy to share bites with us!
For the Dads: Chicken and Pasta
For the main course, Scott went for their signature rotisserie chicken, and the meat was juicy and tender, with a crispy, golden skin that was simply irresistible. Thomas opted for the chicken parmigiana, which was served with an indulgent black truffle orzo.
The Finale: Warm Butterscotch Cake
We couldn’t leave without trying dessert, and Doughbird’s Warm Butterscotch Cake with vanilla bean gelato was the perfect sweet finale. This indulgent, warm cake was rich and moist, with the creamy vanilla bean gelato adding a perfect balance. We devoured it in no time—trust us, this is one dessert you won’t want to skip!
Final Thoughts
Doughbird is a great addition to the Dallas dining scene, offering something for everyone. Whether you’re in the mood for gourmet pizza, succulent chicken, or perfectly crafted cocktails, this restaurant doesn’t miss a beat. Most importantly, it's a family-friendly spot where both kids and adults can enjoy a delicious, memorable meal. We’ll definitely be back, and next time, we might even dive deeper into their menu—but you can bet we’ll be ordering those truffle fries again!
